Owner of West Tec Marine, Aaron McKellar, started in the marine industry while still in high school. Starting at the age of sixteen, he worked after school and during the summers until graduating in 1997. Immediately upon graduation, Aaron started his four year inboard outboard marine mechanic apprenticeship at one of the most established marine dealers in western Canada. At the age of 21, his apprenticeship was completed and he left to start his own business as an mobile marine mechanic. Working out of the shop in the backyard of his parents’ home, he soon had dozens of boats lined up across the yard. It wasn’t hard to tell it was time to look for a bigger shop with lots of yard space. When Aaron found a 3.5 acre piece of land which was on the Fraser River including a boat launch and lots of room for growth, he knew he had something special. Once settling in, it didnt take long before he started to acquire dealerships and staff. Now at the age of 24 Aaron Mckellar has grown West Tec Marine to where it sits today - five dealerships, four full time staff and two part time staff. West Tec Marine is now developing and manufacturing high-end aluminum jet boats.
When asking Aaron how he sees the future at West Tec Marine, he replied by saying, “With the team of guys we have here, I see nothing but growth and an exciting future for West Tec Marine”. After meeting with Aaron it became very clear that he was a man of motivation, drive, and perseverance. Because of his youth, Aaron has the advantage of being able to create a long term plan for the business he will be a part of for many years to come. His goal is that West Tec Marine be known as a place with knowledgeable and helpful staff, to service all your boating needs.
